4 corners (see Box Drill) 4+ players1 disc, 5 field markers

Albuquerque
(Endzone Drill)
8+ players1 disc

Set up 2 lines of players in the middle of an endzone. One at the back and one at the front. One player starts with the disc just outside of the endzone; a player from the back of the line at the back of the endzone cuts to the front corner of the endzone while the player hits them in stride. Then that player makes a cut toward the sideline to get the disc back from the cutter they just threw to. The cutter thows to them, then clears to the back of the other line. A player from the front of the front line makes a dumb cut, and tries to end up just past the center of the field so that they can repeat the process to a cutter coming from that back of the back line toward the other front cone of the endzone. The player who started with the disc clears to the back line. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

There is a good example here: http://www.menalto.com/ultimate/view_play.php?play_id=24.

Bump Drill
2-4 players1 disc

One player acts as a handler, and the other acts as a cutter in a horizontal stack. The cutter makes a fake deep cut and cuts in toward the handler. The handler throws them the disc before they get too close (~5-10 yards is too close). After the handler makes the throw, they make an up line cut to get the disc back immediately from the cutter. The cutter makes a good dump pass then cuts deep and back in again to repeat.

The handler should focus on sending the disc up to space for the cutter right as they turn, as well as moving as soon as they possibly can after releaseing the disc without traveling. The cutter should work on giving nice easy bump passes for the handler to catch so that they can immediately look up field.

Variations
Add defenders. The defenders try to stay between the disc and their man.

Box Drill
4+ players1 disc, 5 field markers

Four cones are set in a square about 10 to 20 yards from each other, with another cone marking the center. The first player cuts at a 45 degree angle from the first corner cone to the center cone then out to the second corner cone, while another player throws to them from near the first cone. While the first player is cutting out to get the disc, a second player is cutting from the second corner cone to the center cone and back out to the third corner cone to get the disc next.

There is a good example here: http://www.menalto.com/ultimate/view_play.php?play_id=3858.

Circle Drill
10+ players1 disc

Three players start in the middle of a circle formed by all of the other players. The three in the middle are playing defense while all the other players don't move, but try to keep the disc moving without getting a turnover. Offensive players can not throw to the players directly on either side of them, and hammers and other high throws aren't allowed. If an offensive player throws a turnover or fails to catch a disc they should have, they run a lap around the outside of the circle. The defensive player who gets on the mark starts the stall at 5.

Come-To

4+ players

4+ discs, 2 field markers

Variation (of Come-To)

4+ players

4+ discs, 6 field markers

Cross Drill
(similar to Box Drill)
4+ players2+ discs, 5 field markers

Set up 4 cones in a square about 10-15 yards apart, then put the 5th cone in the center of the box. Make 4 lines of players behind the outer cones. A player from cone 1 cuts around the middle cone then left to cone 2, while a player across the box at cone 3 throws a leading throw to the runner. A player from cone 4 now cuts around the middle cone and to the left toward cone 1, while a player from cone 2 throws them a leading throw. This pattern repeats.

There is a good example here: http://www.menalto.com/ultimate/view_play.php?play_id=16.

Daisy
(Also called: Mobile Man)
3+ players1 disc

Two players stand in stationary positions about 10 to 20 ft. from each other. A third player begins running toward the 1st stationary player who throws them the disc. The running player immediately throws it back and continues running around that stationary player who throws it to the runner again. The runner recieve three throws while running around the stationary player, the third of which will be about halfway between the two staionary players, so that the runner can continue the pattern around the second stationary player. Focus on not traveling as the runner, and all three players should try to get fast clean passes off with no drops.

Variations
Add or remove stationary players. (Add a third stationary player and make a triangle for the runner.)

Dump Continuation

4-6 players

1 disc, 0-2 field markers

Dump Swing Drill
6 players1 disc, 0-4 field markers

This drill is most easily set up on a regular field, or at least a place where a line can be used to simulate "out-of-bounds" on one side. 3 of the players are on offense, and the other 3 are on defense against those 3. The first offender starts with the disc on the sideline, while the first defender marks them with a force towards that sideline. The other two offenders set up as the "dump" and the "swing" for the first offender, with the other 2 defenders marking them appropriately.

The offender with the disc check it in while the defender on the mark begins the stall count at 6. The offender in the middle of the field (the "dump") makes a fake cut up line for the offender with the disc. Only about 3 or 4 steps at about 30-45 degrees, then they decide to either commit to the up line cut, or turn back and away for a dump-swing cut. If the middle offender goes up line, then the far side offender fills the middle of the field. If the middle offender cuts back, the far side offender makes the exact same cut the middle defender just did in order to get the swing.

Dump To Space

3-4 players

1 disc, 0-2 field markers

Huck Drill
5+ players2+ discs

Set up 2 lines of players parallel to each other and facing the same direction. A thrower stands slightly to the side of the lines with a stack of discs. The thrower says 'Go' and the front player in each line starts running down field. The thrower hucks it when they are far enough out, and both players attempt to catch the disc before the other can (both players are playing as though they are on offense).

All players on the field should also work on "Up" calls.

Variations

  • Add a mark to the thrower.
  • Add a mark with a force, and have the cutters line up so that both shallow and deep are options. (Horizontal Stack.)
  • Throw higher floatier throws to help recieveres work on reading the disk. (Swilly Huck Drill.)

Lucky Pierre
3 players1 disc

One person marks the player with the disc while the third stands 10 to 15 yards away. The mark is straight up, directly between the thrower and the other player. Stall begins at 5. Once the thrower throws, they run over to mark and the cycle repeats.

The thrower should focus on good fakes and breaks as well as pivoting while not traveling. The mark should focus on keeping their butt down and moving their feet.

Variation - Unlucky Pierre: The marker is the one who runs to mark again for some pre-specified number of marks, then switches out with one of the other players. We usually do about 15-20 marks.

There is a good example here: http://www.menalto.com/ultimate/view_play.php?play_id=197.

Shadow Drill
2+ players2 cones or field markers

Set up 2 cones about 10-20 feet apart. Two players stand between these cones facing each other. One is designated as the offensive player, the other is the defensive player. For 2 minutes the offensive player cuts back and forth between the two cones while the defense player "shadows" them. Switch roles and repeat. This is a conditioning drill.
